BT ArtBoxes sold to celebrate ChildLine 25th Aniversary

To celebrate ChildLine’s 25th Anniversary and the support they provide for children and young people, BT have taken the iconic phone box and turned it into art to be sold on eBay for Charity. If you’ve been in London recently you may have seen the replicas of the classic BT phone box, transformed into . The ArtBoxes are now being auctioned to raise money for ChildLine’s 25th anniversary. All proceeds from the auctions will go to assist the work of ChildLine.

The “K6” British phone box was designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott to commemorate King George V’s Silver Jubilee. Sadly they’ve almost all disappeared from street corners across the country but this is an opportunity to buy one to keep forever.

The telephone boxes (which are replicas and don’t include a working telephone or have an operating door) have all been transformed into works of art and are currently on display in Central London around Trafalger Square and Picadilly.

My favourite without a doubt is the “” planter telephone box by Lily Cole, mainly because out of all the BT telephone boxes on auctions this is one that I could actually see sitting in my garden with maybe a beautiful Wisteria growing up it.

If you do bid on a BT ArtBox make sure that you’re prepared to transport it. BT warn that they are heavy and bulky, a special courier service is advisable.

The run until the 22nd of July, with a few selected BT ArtBoxes being sold by Sothebys at the National Portrait Gallery on the 18th of July.
