Equestrian & Cycling Sprint Gold Medal Stamps

No primary category set

Another day of gold medal triumphs for the British Olympic Team GB with cycling (featuring yet again) and the first equestrian jumping medal in living memory.

Britain is now just seven medals short of the haul of 47 from the last Games in Beijing and only one gold short of matching the gold tally. It also wouldn’t be right not to at least mention the bronze medal won on the uneven bars by Beth Tweddle in her third Olympics.

Team GB Equestrian Jumping

Scott Brash, Peter Charles, Ben Maher and Nick Skelton have won the first British gold medal in Equestrian Jumping for 60 years.

After the final round ended in a draw with the Netherlands, there was a jump off on a shortened course. That left Vindicat W the challenge of carrying Peter Charles on a clear round. Vindicat W, a magnificent dark bay, ten year old gelding, proved more than up to the task of jumping faultlessly to take the gold medal.

You’ll be able to get the stamps in Post Offices in Scott’s hometown of Peebles, Peter’s hometown of Alton, Ben’s home town of Bishops Stortford and Nick’s hometown of Alcester by lunch time tomorrow, as well as 500 other Post Offices around the country.

Peebles, Alton, Bishops Stortford and Alcester will all see a traditionally red Royal Mail post box turn gold.

Jason Kenny Cycling Men’s Sprint

Jason Kenny’s second Olympic gold medan win sees him featured on a second stamp, which will be available tomorrow in his home town of Bolton.

The previous two gold Olympic medals Jason won were in the team sprint, and this year it was a toss up whether the experienced sprint team mate Chris Hoy would ride the individual sprint but in the end it was decided Jason was the best competitor.

Jason crushed Gregory Bauge of France with his speed, winning the final two nil in the best of three showdown.

Already having a gold pillar box in Bolton for Jason, Royal Mail will paint a second Bolton post box gold in his honour.
