Today Barack Obama won the mandate of Americans and remains as President of the USA for a second four year term. According to almost all the pundits it was a neck and neck race with Mitt Romney, but one company knew different and called the election 24 hours ahead of time.
Terapeak, the eBay data mining company, analysed eBay listings and found 2,138 closed listings on eBay associated with keyword “Mitt Romney” while there have been 4,180 closed listing associated with keyword “Barack Obama”. Back in 2008 they used eBay sales popularity to predict Obama would beat Republican McCain, and they were right.
This year on the eve of the presidential election Terapeak said “Time will tell the outcome, but according to closed eBay listing, Obama may come out on top this evening“. He did.
Stay tuned to Terapeak as doubtless they’ll be forecasting who’ll win in 2016. It won’t be Barack Obama as, unlike UK Prime Ministers, the US constitution only allows a President to serve two terms. Whoever stands though (and early rumours suggest it could be Hillary Clinton), Terapeak may be the earliest indicator of who will be the 45th President of the United States.

I think Nate Silver was way ahead of TeraPeak. And I think his methods are slightly more credible. 🙂
