Royal Mail, the CWU and Unite have jointly appointed external mediators with aim of resolving issues at an early stage and establishing workplace fairness.
Independent mediation partner, The TCM Group, will help deal with workplace issues involving Royal Mail’s 150,000 workers. Here’s hoping that this move will mean we see fewer national strikes and also not so may local actions too which can also be as disruptive for ecommerce. For Royal Mail too it provides a commercial benefit: other couriers really do make hay when RM isn’t delivering.
Jon Millidge, Group HR Director, Royal Mail, said: “We are pleased that we have jointly appointed external mediators to help us deliver our policy to resolve issues and establish fairness in the workplace, which we are all committed to. It is no surprise that in a business which employs so many people, there will be disagreements from time to time. External mediators can play a vital role in resolving these disagreements quickly and professionally. This will help us to encourage a culture of mutual trust.”
Ray Ellis, Assistant Secretary of the CWU, added “This is an important step in encouraging an approach based on solving problems at an early stage.”
