DPD begin Sunday deliveries

From the 20th of July courier DPD will be offering deliveries on a Sunday across the nation.

This comes on top of recent DPD innovations. They already offer a 1 hour window as standard, you can track your delivery using the Follow My Parcel feature and you also get a final update with a definite 15 minute slot.

You can find out more on the DPD site whether they have more information and a video.

This is further evidence that greater flexibility and more options are going to be critical for the future of ecommerce delivery. A point that’s also made in the Economist this week when they look at the growing trend for same day delivery.

  1. Tomorrow is May 4th. You can have tomorrow off and a few more Sundays before your Sundays are ruined for good.

  2. Does this mean that for many online sellers Saturday now becomes just another working day with courier collection pm for delivery next day on Sunday?
Perhaps but we await with interest the pricing for this ‘express weekend’ service since if it is anywhere near the current Saturday morning premium delivery service this will definitely cost the buyer a small fortune!
In which case it will be a very niche offer and in terms of additional sales volumes versus increased costs perhaps not worth bothering with for many smaller online sellers.
We are looking for some confirmed pricing information & interestingly there is also no word from Interlink Express if they are doing this as well.

  3. hermes is due to start delivery and collection Saturday and sunday

yodel already does Saturday delivery at no extra cost

  4. You mean Yodel already promise Saturday delivery – that doesn’t mean they do deliver on a Saturday. It’s far more likely they will either lose the parcel or lob it over someone’s wall

  5. Exactly my point Dan.
Just bowling up to a customers address sometime between a Friday morning and Sunday evening is a completely different service level then a guaranteed next day delivery via courier on a Sunday.
We will be staggered and hugely impressed if that delivery option is offered for the same price as a weekday next day service!

  6. Public information about this service is still very scanty indeed.
We are still trying to get some real information and perhaps others who have a DPD account can contribute what they know?
It looks like Interlink Express will also be offering this service but after that it all gets very vague.
What we believe (we must stress this is speculative from telephone conversations with no formal written confirmation) is that there will be a premium chargeable service for a Sunday delivery, it will not be available outside of the UK mainland postcodes (so the ‘Wee Frees’ can rest easy), it will require collection along with a high minimum quantity of orders.
So far this looks like a service for the big boys/girls club only!
