Amazon bids for more B2B business in the US

Amazon.com launched a dedicated website for businesses yesterday in the US.

Called Amazon Business, it will service the huge B2B (business to business) sector and will also allow third-party sellers to get in on the action.

And it makes a lot of sense. According to Forrester, in 2015 the US B2B market will total $8 trillion with ecommerce representing 9.3% of that. And by 2020, the B2B market is forecast to equal $9 trillion. $1.1 trillion of that will be online sales. Amazon Business will offer more than 250 million products and also some tasty shipping deals.

Amazon Business will offer free two-day shipping for orders above $49 even if the business buying doesn’t subscribe to Amazon Prime.

Amazon’s Stacey Keller said of the launch: “We think Amazon Business is an experience that businesses will love and a great opportunity for manufacturers and sellers to reach registered business customers. It’s only the beginning for this new marketplace – we will continue to build out features in areas like technical support, payments, shipping and pricing.”

There is no indication as to whether and when this service will be available in Europe.
