Amazon under fire for poor Prime Day deals

The balance of the coverage regarding Amazon Prime day yesterday has been a little critical with several articles in the press commenting on the poor selection of deal available on the much trailed Amazon Prime day.

And apart from the happy buyers who managed to bag an LG G4 smartphone for just one cent in the US, plenty were rather less excited by what they perceived to be a lack-lustre selection of deals.
Using the hashtag on social media #primedayfail there were plenty of snarky comments. This article on Gizmodo sums up some of the disappointment.

Although none of this dents the runaway success that Prime clearly is and how vital it remains to the Amazon business.

The Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP) estimates that the number of Amazon Prime members in the US is 44 million, up 3 million in the second quarter. Apparently, 47 % of Amazon’s US shoppers are now Prime members.

Josh Lowitz of CIRP said: “US Amazon Prime membership has grown significantly since we first started measuring it in 2012. It has more than doubled in a little more than two years.”
