Amazon celebrate their 20th birthday next week and to celebrate are introducing “Prime Day“, a new global shopping event to rival Black Friday exclusively for Prime members.
Kicking off from midnight on Wednesday the 15th of July UK Prime members can buy thousands of Lightning Deals, six popular Deals of the Day and of course as it’s for Prime members everything will come with unlimited fast, free delivery. In the UK Amazon are offering more than double the number of deals that they offered on Black Friday 2014.
It’s not just a UK event either, Prime members in US, Spain, Japan, Italy, Germany, France, Canada and Austria will also have their own Prime Day promotions.
Potential side benefits on Prime Day
One of the side effects of Black Friday, seen by retailers in 2014, was that even if they didn’t have any discounts, special offers or promotions they still had an exceptionally strong revenues. While shoppers were going mad for the Black Friday promotions it would appear they were so heavily engaged in spending money that they were also happy to splash out on goods which weren’t discounted (or maybe didn’t even bother to check if there was a deal to be had).
If Amazon’s Prime Day grows to become the same phenomenon that Black Friday has become, that can only be good news for Amazon merchants regardless of whether their products are including in the deals or not.
Discount on Amazon Prime subscriptions
Amazon is offering UK customers the chance to join Amazon Prime and save twenty quid on the year’s subscription. Up until midnight on Wednesday the 8th of July you can sign up for Amazon Prime for £59 for the first year (Amazon Prime normally costs £79 per year).

I have been a subscriber to Prime for several years and for me personally it’s a fantastic method of obtaining free next day delivery on most purchases. I buy a lot of packaging products from Amazon and can legitimately claim the subscription as a business cost.
The Instant video package is a very nice benefit and my personal purchases often benefit from Prime.
However if I was paying for Prime from my personal account, I might think twice, but as a genuine business expense it’s well worth it.
