Customs Officers in Poland strike and protest outside Parliament

No primary category set

Customs Officers in Poland are on strike today and held a protest outside the Warsaw Parliament.

In Poland Customs revenue contributes about a third of the entire countries revenues. Saying “This is the hen that lays the golden eggs, and it must be strengthened”, the head of the Polish Customs’ Officers union, Sławomir Siwy is leading the protests about a possible merger of Customs with other government departments leading to an increase in salaries but probably some job losses.

All this is doing no good for ecommerce however, any parcels which need to clear customs are being held back in Warsaw and queues at the borders.

Hopefully the impact for UK and EU retailers shipping to Poland will be minimal as parcels shouldn’t be subject to customs inspections. If you’re shipping to Poland from outside the EU then delays are likely.
