Apple is tackling fakes on Amazon

No primary category set

Apple is taking action against fake branded goods being sold on Amazon. The goods in question are being listed as genuine and often use Apple’s genuine listings. The items in question are Apple accessories. This was first reported on PatentlyApple (where you can take a closer look at the submission.).

Apple are suing Mobile Star for selling fake power adaptors and cables on Amazon.com. Apple say they have bought “well over” 100 iPhone devices, supposedly own-brand power adapters and charging cables to discover that almost 90% were fake.

Apple says of the products: “Unlike genuine Apple products, they are not subjected to industry-standard consumer safety testing and are poorly constructed with inferior or missing components, flawed design and inadequate electrical insulation. These counterfeits have the potential to overheat, catch fire and deliver a deadly shock to consumers while in normal use. Consumers, relying on Amazon.com’s reputation, have no reason to suspect the power products they purchased are anything but genuine.”

  1. Sad fact, Amazon is rife with counterfeit products in its marketplace. We found they even had stock of counterfeits of our brand a few years ago. There is little due diligence and even when someone complains to them, it takes a long time to get the goods removed.
Well done to Apple for making a stand, I hope Amazon will be supportive.

  2. We seem to get any product flagged (wrongly) by consumers as a fake pulled instantly and request for invoices in the past 180 days follow immediately.

In the meantime, we see sellers with terrible feedback and ridiculously low priced items seLling fakes by the bucketload.

We can’t really fathom amazon’s approach, but can see its obviously not working if apple are in the process of suing and amazon seller.

Would be good to hear other seller’s experiences.
