Royal Mail has begun its annual recruitment campaign to hire 19000 Christmas workers to help their 120k permanent staff who sort and deliver the post.
14.9 thousand of the jobs will be in England, 1300 in Scotland, 700 posts in Wales and 500 in Northern Ireland. Parcelforce Worldwide, is also recruiting 1,850 extra people, including 830 drivers.
The recruitment programme is part of Royal Mail’s substantial financial investment in additional resources at Christmas to help ensure we provide the best possible postal service to our customers throughout the UK. And needless to say, the Christmas post this year will be bigger than ever as online shopping continues to grow.
Royal Mail’s chief operations officer, Sue Whalley, said: “Christmas is our busiest time of year. We plan all year round to help ensure we deliver the best possible service for consumers and businesses in the UK at Christmas. We make a substantial commitment in additional resources including the recruitment of thousands of temporary workers to handle the festive mailbag and the growing market of online Christmas shopping.”
