Android Pay launches in Ireland with AIB & KBC

No primary category set

Android PayAndroid Pay has launched in Ireland with Mastercard and Visa support for cards from Allied Irish Bank (AIB) and KBC Bank Ireland.

Irish users will be able to use Android Pay at thousands of retail locations throughout Ireland that accept contactless payments including shops like Eason, McDonald’s, Tesco, Boots and SPAR.

All you need do is to wake up your phone with NFC enabled and at checkout your mobile will act as your payment device in exactly the same way as holding a contactless bank card to the payment terminal. You will need to be running Android KitKat 4.4 or higher.

Google say that more banks will be added in the near future, but if you don’t bank with AIB or KBC I wouldn’t hold out much faith in “near future” meaning any time soon. Android Pay launched in the UK back in May but they still don’t support Barclays bank cards.

If you’re in Ireland you can download Android Pay from Google Play, add your supported bank cards and go shopping today.
