Temando have just released their comprehensive “State of Shipping in Commerce 2017 Report” which is well worth a read.
There are many interesting factoids in the report well worth being aware of, for instance did you know that 88% of UK shoppers shop regularly on Amazon, but only 49% of UK retailers sell on marketplace? Also interesting is the report found that only 8% of shoppers said they prefer to shop directly with a retailer which is encouraging news for all marketplace sellers.
The main thrust of the report however is to answer questions such as should you be offering free shipping and when should you charge for shipping? It points out that with most shoppers paying for shipping their online orders, they expect the shipping experience to be worth their investment, so think about what shipping options you offer and if they are meeting customer expectations.
Customers say they would shop online more often if they were offered: better tracking, choice of carrier, hyperlocal delivery, click & collect, better carrier services, after hours delivery, faster standard shipping, next day delivery, free and easy returns and free shipping, but again which is more important to the customer and which will make the smallest difference to sales if you’re unable to offer a particular service?
