Contrary to many predictions, the Amazon Australia launch of their marketplace did not take place on Black Friday and they’re not launching today either (bear in mind that today is almost over for Australians due to the time difference). Their current site has Cyber Monday offers, but only for up to 70% off Kindle books which is about all the average Australian can buy on their domestic Amazon site.
Sign up to sell in time for the Amazon Australia launch
The launch is however imminent and if you want to become a seller on the Amazon Australia Marketplace then the sign up page is waiting for you.
Realistically we are pretty confident that Amazon Australia will go live before Christmas and we’re still expecting it to be around the beginning of December. The marketplace opened it’s doors to the first consumers invited to carry out purchases in the final pre-launch test phase last week on Thursday and whilst many were predicting a Black Friday full launch it was never a realistic proposition.
It’s inevitable that with the hype that Amazon will be flooded with Australians who even if they don’t become regular shoppers will be eager to check out the prices and experience the service. The last thing that Amazon would have wanted would be the extra pressure of running thousands of Black Friday deals and having their brand new warehouse staff (many of whom will still be being trained) for their first day’s trading.
Watch this space, Amazon Australia will launch soon and if you’ve yet to sign up then you should at least be seriously considering it. Perhaps December is not quite the right time as you’re hopefully busy enough picking and packing orders for the Christmas rush, but come January when things tend to naturally quieten down, if you sell on Amazon’s UK and EU marketplaces then why wouldn’t you want to sell to Australia on the same platform too?
