Black Friday saw record sales of Amazon devices

No primary category set

It’s safe to say that Black Friday and Cyber Monday are no longer Amazon‘s biggest selling days – that accolade now firmly belongs to Prime Day.

Amazon.com have just announced that a record holiday shopping weekend for Amazon devices stating that millions of Alexa Devices were purchased. However Prime Day this year was bigger than Black Friday 2016 and Cyber Monday 2016 put together. With the lack of a record day across the board it’s safe to say that the holiday sales were less than Prime Day 2017.

There is some deja vu from Amazon’s latest Black Friday weekend press release compared to a similar press release from 2016:

“Amazon today announced its best-ever holiday shopping weekend for devices—including a record-breaking Cyber Monday with Amazon device sales up more than 2x over last year and millions of devices sold.”
– Nov. 29, 2016

“Amazon today announced its best-ever holiday shopping weekend for devices, with millions of Amazon devices sold between Thanksgiving and Cyber Monday.”
– Nov. 28, 2017

It’s safe to say that at this time of year Amazon’s top sellers are it’s own Alexa devices with the Echo Dot and Amazon Fire TV Stick with Alexa Voice Remote not only the best-selling Amazon devices, but they were the best-selling products from any manufacturer in any category across all of Amazon.com.

Customers purchased 2.7x as many Fire TV Sticks as in the same period last year. Fire TV continues to be the #1 streaming media player family in the US, UK, Germany, and Japan, across all retailers.

Amazon Echo SpotCustomer reaction to the new Echo Spot which comes with a screen was incredibly positive and it is sold out for this holiday season; customers can still pre-order to reserve their place in line and orders will be filled on a first come, first served basis in the new year. The first Echo Spot deliveries are scheduled for the 19th of December.

The Echo Dot was the best-selling device at Whole Foods Market over the holiday weekend.

“Customers purchased millions of Amazon’s Alexa-enabled devices this weekend, and Alexa devices were the top sellers across all of Amazon. We’re excited that tens of millions of customers around the world will be using Alexa to prepare for the holidays.”
– Dave Limp, Senior Vice President, Amazon Devices & Services

I think it’s safe to say that as well as being excited that customers will be using Alexa to prepare for the holidays that they’re even more excited that tens of millions of customers are even more closely tied into the Amazon ecosystem, doubtless are tied into Prime membership and will also be ever more likely to make their next purchases on Amazon.
