Newegg hit record numbers at the start of the holiday season and report that their Black November campaign saw 10% year-over-year growth compared to November 2016.
“Since November 1, we’ve seen strong customer engagement in response to our Black November offering. We’re encouraged not just by increased sales in core product categories for gamers and DIYers, but also the complementary aspects of our marketplace offerings and global growth.”
– Merle McIntosh, Newegg’s SVP of Sales & Marketing
Newegg’s double-digit November growth further indicates the holiday shopping season is starting earlier as shoppers seek out discounts well ahead of Thanksgiving. Newegg anticipated this shift early and coined the “Black November” term in 2009 and earned a registered trademark for it in 2015. Now in its ninth year, Newegg’s Black November expanded beyond North America and into the company’s global network of 52 countries.
Four notable trends emerged from Newegg’s 2017 Black November sales:
Gaming is the Dominant Catalyst
eSports and new AAA video game titles are fueling strong sales of PC upgrade components such as memory, GPUs and monitors, plus gaming accessories such as gaming mice, keyboards and mousepads.
Strong Marketplace Performance
Sales driven by Newegg’s Marketplace were up 45% during Cyber Week compared to last year. Customers are responding positively to Newegg’s increasingly diverse portfolio sourced from the company’s Marketplace sellers.
Canadian Growth
Sales to Canadian customers were up 49%, further validating Newegg’s continued investment in its Canadian infrastructure.
Overseas Expansion
Newegg’s global operation is still in its early stages, but had an extremely strong showing. Opening these new markets is attracting both new customers and sellers, which is expanding Newegg’s market and its merchandise offering.
It’s unlike that many retailers will be rushing to sign up to sell on Newegg this close to Christmas, but perhaps Newegg are a marketplace that should be on your radar to consider in the New Year? It’s also worth noting that the UK’s Department for International Trade (DIT) has partnered with Newegg to launch their first business to consumer advertising campaign, ‘Technology is GREAT – Tis the season to shop UK gifts’, showcasing some of the best British tech goods to US consumers.
