Prince Charles presents Amazon Charity Award

Doug Gurr, Amazon UK Country Manager, and Ajay Kavan, Vice President of AmazonFresh got to dine at Buckingham Palace where Prince Charles presented them with an award for Amazon’s charity work.

This year Amazon will donate £1.5 million in goods – over 47,000 products – to over 1,800 charities and voluntary organisations across the country through their charity partner In Kind Direct. In Kind Direct re-distributes products donated by retailers and manufacturers to charities working in the UK. Amazon is In Kind Direct’s biggest donor and over a partnership stretching back to 2009 Amazon have donated over 170,000 products worth over £4.5 million.

“We were humbled to receive the 20th Anniversary Founder’s Award for In Kind Direct, presented by HRH The Prince of Wales to Doug Gurr, UK Country Manager, and Ajay Kavan, Vice President of AmazonFresh, at the In Kind Direct Gala Dinner, held at Buckingham Palace last month.”

If you make purchases on Amazon and would like to support charities, don’t forget that Amazon recently launched another initiative – Amazon Smile. Amazon will donate 0.5% of the net purchase price of eligible products (excluding VAT, shipping fees, and returns) to one of ten charities that customers can choose from. It doesn’t cost the consumer anything, you simply visit smile.amazon.co.uk to select your chosen charity which you can change at any time you choose. Then when you shop on Amazon and wish a donation to be made, start your search at smile.amazon.co.uk (Purchases made on Amazon Shopping App, Kindle Store, FireTV, Amazon Dash, or Amazon Echo are not currently eligible for donations)
