Amazon have announced the start of free two hour delivery of natural and organic food stuffs from Whole Foods through Prime Now. Delivery from Whole Foods Market through Prime Now is available daily from 8am to 10pm.
Amazon Prime Now doesn’t cover the entire catalogue of Amazon products and is marketed as ideal for last minute essentials, in reality there’s a pretty broad range of household staples, computers, gadgets and gizmos available. Now health conscious consumers will be able to use their Prime account to delivery last minute Whole Food products.
Initially, the free two hour delivery from Whole Foods service is available in Austin, Cincinnati, Dallas and Virginia Beach and will expand across the US in 2018.
“We’re happy to bring our customers the convenience of free two-hour delivery through Prime Now and access to thousands of natural and organic groceries and locally sourced favorites. Together, we have already lowered prices on many items, and this offering makes Prime customers’ lives even easier.”
– John Mackey, Whole Foods Market co-founder and CEO
This is all part of Amazon’s never ending desire to be the one stop shop for consumer spending and to tie them in ever closer with additional Prime benefits. Whilst it’s not directly relevant to third party retailers, loyal customers increasing their spend on Amazon can only be a good thing as doubtless if they’re buying their pasta for tonight’s dinner for delivery in two hours then when they need batteries, shoes or a new memory stick for their camera they’ll also use Amazon tomorrow.
