Each week we are releasing a new position paper, aiming to capture different news which crosses multiple marketplaces and channels and collate the news on the different subjects, to make it easier for you to find when it’s of interest. This week we turn our focus to mobile which has revolutionised the entire Internet as well as marketplaces.
In our Marketplace Position Paper, Paul Skeldon traces the very earliest mobile transactions from the 1990’s and early 2000s, well before the first iPhone popularised mobile.
The position paper also explores the forms that mobile comes in, the different ways you can use mobile for ecommerce and how you can tailor your marketplace listings for mobile. Paul also looks at mobile marketing and payments.
Paul notes that shoppers are not going to distinguish in their minds what device or channel they are shopping in and so mobile will become part of the wider Omni-Channel retailing idea, with shoppers starting on one device, finishing on another having been into a store in between. The challenge for retailers is to make sure your product offers function just as well on mobile as on a tablet or computer and for consumers who chop and change between multiple devices have a seamless shopping experience.
