Amazon Go to launch cashier-less store in London

No primary category set

Amazon Go stores are allegedly set to launch their cashier-less convenience shop concept in London. The move would mark the company’s first expansion of the partially-automated concept outside of their US base.

The news follows reports in October 2018 that marketplace had reportedly looked at picking the store’s site at Oxford Circus. The marketplace had been looking for a location between 4000sq ft and 5000sq ft for their first Amazon Go UK store.

Amazon’s first check-out free Amazon Go checkout-less grocery store was open to the public in Seattle back in January 2018.D Dubbed as ”Just Walk Out Shopping. No lines, no checkout—just grab and go!, the store sees shoppers scanning products with their mobile phones and then Amazon charges shoppers when they leave the store. Back then, Amazon said they had no plans to open more stores. But, we have seen the company opening nine more stores across the US. It is only a matter on time to see whether Amazon will definitely open their convenience shop in the UK.

Retailer response on Amazon GO London launch

Amazon’s plan to launch an Amazon Go store in London is no surprise, especially since the convenience store market has proved fruitful for a number of the major UK grocers. The retail giant is making a strategic move to compete with the major grocery express stores as it augments its physical footprint beyond the US. As Amazon Go stores continue to expand on the UK high street, retailers across the board should take steps to unify their digital transformation efforts within the physical store by offering flexible and convenient checkout options that deliver true flexibility for the customer.”
