“South will be a dominant market for us,” is the phrase Etsy India managing director used to announce the company’s expansion plans.
Etsy is planning to expand their trading to the south of India. Some 900k products are already being sold on Etsy India after launching their operation in July 2018.
“There are thousands of sellers from India who are already part of our seller community. We are operating out of our corporate office in Delhi. We are reaching out to every major market in the country. Hyderabad is one of the key markets for Etsy, given the potential and talent the region has to offer. South will be a dominant market for us. We connect millions of buyers and sellers from nearly every country in the world. Buyers come to Etsy to get products crafted and curated by creative entrepreneurs. For sellers, we offer a range of tools and services that address key business needs. There is a growing focus on sustainable products. Our team recruits and assists new sellers on and offline. We are creating offline content in vernacular languages in the next two months. From there, we will work to build brand awareness and, over time, create demand. We are planning to add more features and payment options.”

Last August saw Etsy concentrating their efforts on seller recruitment in India who can then focus on making their goods available to shoppers in other key Etsy target areas like the Americas and Europe. This presents financial opportunities for merchants who sell on Etsy India as there is a western demand for handmade and artisan goods that come from the country.
