An Amazon new distribution centre is scheduled to open in July on the outskirts of Bristol in their ongoing push to expand their logistics offering.
The new warehouse is designed to facilitate next-day deliveries for shoppers located in Severn Beach. It’s 500,000 sq ft expanses will be able to fulfil a large pool of Amazon’s orders. Amazon say it will open on the 1st of July 2019.
“We could consolidate everything into the middle of the UK and build mega sites there but if we want to give our customers next-day service we need to be close by and that is super crucial. It will mean a bigger percentage of all those millions of items on the Amazon website will be available for those customers the next day and that’s important.”

Amazon say that September will see about 1,000 employees working at the warehouse. They will fill a variety of last-mile jobs including fulfilment associates, store coordinators, operational managers, safety specialists as well as maintenance technicians and yard marshals.
Amazon will offer staff £10.50 per hour and £12.25 for night shifts. They said many have voiced their interest in joining the new warehouse.
