Magento have announced the integration of Braintree PayPal to enable a seamless payments experience on merchants’ Progressive Web Applications (PWA).
Several months ago, Magento launched Progressive Web Applications Studio to give shoppers app-like, cross-channel experiences that were once reserved for native apps. This was aimed at reducing the need for shoppers to download merchants apps but enjoy a seamless mobile shopping experience akin to a shopping journey on an app.
What is PWA?
Progressive Web Apps (PWAs) are web applications that are built like regular websites but act as an app when they are opened on a mobile phone. They appear as an icon on the home page, can access the phone’s location and work when the phone isn’t connected to a network just like an app. Built using Javascript a PWA gives you two for the price of one; a fully responsive website and app-like functionality when on the phone all without having to build and pay for a native app. In the simplest terms, it is a type of mobile app delivered through the web.
Seamless checkout and payment
Magento say that the key element of a shopping experience such as checkout and payment process are the difficult part of PWA to technically implement. This is why they have integrated PayPal’s Braintree into their default PWA storefront called Venia. The integration aimed at providing a quick and easy way for merchants to enable shoppers to pay with debit and credit transactions using a trusted gateway. Magento say that this can be configured for PWA in a matter of minutes, especially for current Braintree merchants.
One Response
This is a big deal. We heard something like this was in the works, my concern was who they would partner with since experiences with payment processors can vary wildly. Braintree is solid though, judging by the ratings and reviews.
