Walmart pilots autonomous delivery to ‘reinvent the shopping experience’

Walmart have announced the pilot of autonomous delivery initiative with the self-driving company Gatik in a bid to “reinvent the shopping experience.” The autonomous delivery operations will look after Walmart’s Grocery Pickup and Delivery to communities across the US.

The move will see Walmart staying “on the cutting edge of grocery pickup.” It also aims to build on their existing logistics expertise to integrate autonomous vehicles into their online grocery ecosystem.

In March, Arkansas passed legislation allowing for autonomous vehicles to operate in the state. With the help of Gatik, Walmart aims to test the innovative capabilities to stay in touch with the retail dynamic.

Walmart are keeping their card close to their sleeve as they haven’t revealed much about the project. They attributed the launch of the pilot to their focus to “make Walmart even better and shape the future of retail for everyone.”
