As the 100 day countdown to Christmas commences, eBay (with a little help from Santa) reveals that UK families could make £500 and give themselves a Free Christmas by selling just 15 unwanted toys and gifts. Here at Tamebay we’re liking this messaging as if consumers are selling on eBay then there’s a pretty good chance they’ll also do some of their Christmas shopping on eBay and that means they’ll be buying from Tamebay readers selling on eBay.
Showing us how it’s done, Santa was spotted setting up a market stall in East London’s famous Petticoat Lane, to sell off what appeared to be his own items – from his iconic red coat, to elves’ boots and even leftover toys from his workshop, from years gone by.
This comes as research has found that the average Christmas costs £420 and new findings from eBay reveals that two fifths of the UK (41%) are planning to have finished their Christmas shopping before December even starts.
Crunching the numbers, you could cash in on your unused toys and make £500 to wrap up the cost of Christmas, before it’s even begun. As eBay has found that the typical UK family is sitting on 15 unused toys and that the average selling price of a toy is £33.
With searches for ‘Beanie Babies’, ‘Hot Wheels’ and ‘Sylvanian Families’ up by 118%, 82% and 69% respectively on eBay, you could sell to give yourself a free Christmas and also find a new home for the toys you no longer love.
“Christmas is a time of cheer for many, but our desire to celebrate and spoil loved ones, can sometimes break the bank. With the festive season only a couple months away, pre-planning now can help to keep spirits high and protect your pockets. Sell the toys that your kids have left lying around and the Christmas party outfits from years’ past – find them a new home and fund new presents with the money you make.”
– Emma Grant, Head of Pre-loved, eBay
