The nation is in mourning with the sad news of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II this afternoon. It is expected a national minute’s silence will be held this Friday to mark the respect of the nation at her passing. Flags across the nation will fly at half mast.
Tomorrow, the Accession Council will convene to officially proclaim His Majesty King Charles III as King. Flags will fly at full mast for the Accession Council before being lowered to half mast until the day after Her Majesty The Queen’s funeral.
One of the country’s oldest institutions is Royal Mail with stamps carrying the image of the Monarch and they have issued the following statement:
We join with people across the United Kingdom and around the world in mourning the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Throughout her long reign, Queen Elizabeth took a close interest in the design of British postage stamps, every one of which carried her image. Her visit to The Queen Elizabeth Delivery Office in Windsor on the eve of her ninetieth birthday was a proud day in our company’s history.
We extend our deepest condolences to His Majesty and to all members of the Royal Family.
