Etsy have announced that the Regulatory Operating fee they apply to UK sales is to increase from 0.25% to 0.32% for all sellers in the United Kingdom. The effective date is the 1st of June.
We saw the introduction of Etsy’s Regulatory Operating fee in July 2021 as they said that local government regulations were making the cost of business more expensive – specifically, operating and providing services to Etsy sellers in the UK.
The Regulatory Operating fee was introduced to help cover some of this added expense, while Etsy covers the rest. As costs continue to increase due to those existing government regulations like the Digital Services Tax in the UK, the Regulatory Operating fee is being updated accordingly.

As an example, Etsy say that the fee on a £20 order will be 6 pence, a 1 pence increase from what it would be today. This doesn’t sound much but it all adds up at a time when competition is fierce, the pandemic impact which saw ecommerce sales massively boosted has subsided, and consumer spending is down. It’s just another cost of doing business which sellers could well do without. It’s also worth noting that the fee is on your turnover, but as a percentage of your profits it’s likely to be significantly more.
The fee will also be increased in France and Italy:
- United Kingdom change from 0.25% to 0.32%
- France will change from 0.40% to 0.47%
- Italy will change from 0.25% to 0.32%
- Spain 0.4%
- Turkey 1.1%
Etsy’s Regulatory Operating fee are charged on the item price plus personalization costs, shipping costs and any gift wrap charges you make.
There is no need to take any action, barring figuring the increased fee into your costs. You can view the Regulatory Operating fee as a line item in your Payment account > Recent activities. You’ll continue to see this in the same place when the updated fee takes effect in June
