eBay launches the Artisan Collective

No primary category set

It seems that these days, everyone’s parking their tanks on Etsy’s lawn. Amazon announced the Homemade at Amazon range in November and eBay too is trying to tap into the passion for crafts and handmade.

So over on eBay.com you can find the Artisan Collective. It’s a bunch of nice things from chosen sellers. Currently it’s just being promoted over on eBay.com

It’s certainly not a full out assault on Etsy, and the relatively small number of items that have been selected for promotion are tilted towards fashion and novelty homewares.

It has long seemed to me that this is certainly the kind of area where eBay could prosper and hopefully in future we’ll see them concentrate on such endeavours as they seek to revitalise their brand.

  1. Typical that ebay launch a gift showcase which features personalised gifts and at the same time introduce new fulfilment ratings and targets for sellers. Do ebay marketing planners and feedback engineers ever talk to each other?

  2. I see ebay have poached threebirdnest. The Far East manufacturer who marketed themselves as a stay-at-home mom making hand crafted knitwear store on Etsy. Etsy kicked them off but eBay seems like the perfect place for them now. eBay doesn’t have the image for my brand of artistic goods. NOTHS and Etsy attracts decent minded customers.
