Internet Explorer support ended by Amazon

Good grief, is anyone still using it? was my reaction to hearing that Internet Explorer support is to be ended by Amazon on the 31st of January 2021. Approved browsers by Amazon will be Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari, and Microsoft Edge.

Internet Explorer support won’t vanish across the entire Internet but even Microsoft ended support for Teams last November and support for Office 365 finishes in August this year. On desktop platforms Edge is the new Microsoft offering and most users should hopefully have upgraded earlier operating systems to Windows 10 and be using the new browser. However, as some operating systems such as Windows Server 2019 rely on Internet Explorer support, it will continue to receive security updates until at least 2029.

“Amazon is planning an update to our browser support policy in our effort to improve your experience. Starting January 31, 2021, we will no longer support Internet Explorer. This change will empower our development teams to innovate and deliver upgrades to the Seller Central website.

If you are currently using Internet Explorer, we request that you switch to a supported web or mobile browser to avoid any disruption. Your options include Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari, and Microsoft Edge.”

Don’t upgrade your browser, upgrade your entire PC to Windows 10

While we’re on the subject of browsers, Tamebay has about 13% of Windows users still using older versions that haven’t upgraded to Windows 10. When Windows 10 was first launched, there was a period where you could upgrade your PC or laptop from Windows 7, Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 Home or Pro. The free upgrades were supposed to end years ago, but over the Christmas break I powered up an old laptop and downloaded and installed Windows 10 to replace Windows 8. The installation was smooth as anything and best of all once completed it had clocked my original Windows 8 licence and fully activated Windows 10.

If you are one of the few still running Internet Explorer, you are probably on an older version of Windows, so hop over to the Windows 10 site and get yourself a free upgrade. You can either download and install directly, or create an ISO image on DVD or USB drive (min 4gb drive required) and run the installation from there. All you need to do before you start is make sure your existing Windows installation is properly licensed and once you’ve upgraded then it would appear you’ll get a fully licensed and activated copy of Windows 10.
