Amazon has been ranked the 2nd best place to work at in the UK, and (for the third year in a row) the top workplace in the US. Skills training and opportunities for growth are the key differentiators setting Amazon apart from other employers.
This is according to LinkedIn’s list of Top Companies, using data from LinkedIn’s 900 million members and designed to help professionals identify the best companies to grow their careers.
As part of Amazon’s commitment to their employees, they have pledged to invest £10 million to train up to 5,000 employees in new skills and support the government’s investment programme through Career Choice, helping them further their careers in tech and in-demand roles, such as cloud computing. Last year, Career Choice had nearly 60,000 new participants explore a range of opportunities, including starting or returning to school, learning new skills, or earning industry certifications. To date, the programme has had more than 130,000 participants.
At Amazon, we love working with passionate, customer-obsessed people from all backgrounds who help build the future. We’re proud to be ranked second in LinkedIn’s top companies in the UK, thanks to the contributions of thousands of Amazonians across the country, and we’ll keep working to make every day better for our employees, customers, and partners.
– John Boumphrey, UK Country Manager, Amazon
One might look at this and wonder how today’s news of disgruntled strike workers coming together as GMB union members as one collective voice jibes with the most popular company to work at. The probable answer is that those on LinkedIn extolling the company are exec type office workers and those toiling away on the front line in warehouses are less likely to have the time to network on a platform who’s mission is to “connect the world’s professionals”.
It’s amazing to see Amazon named as one of the top workplaces, but it will be even more amazing when the front line workers agree that Amazon is the best place to work and that will be a challenge.
