Fruugo GPSR will block GB listings if not compliant

Fruugo GPSR preparations are well under way ready for the 13th December and you can find out more on their Support Wiki. What you need to know is that all online listings will be blocked if retailers are not compliant with the EU legislation when selling into the EU, CH, NO & UK.

As with all other platforms, Fruugo’s problem NI being impacted by GPSR. On the Fruugo platform NI is treated as part of the UK so if your Fruugo GPRS compliance isn’t in place then you’ll be unable to sell to Great Britain. As part of the EEA, CH & NO are harmonising these laws also.

While this is a massive issue on many marketplaces, it’s perhaps not quite as critical on Fruugo, due to most sellers using Fruugo to sell internationally – UK sellers probably aren’t as worried about domestic sales on Fruugo which is a platform designed primarily for cross border sales. However if you don’t comply you will use domestic sales so check your stats to assess the impact.

For sellers both within and outside the UK, if you sell to any EU country then you’ll need to be GRPS compliant anyway so UK Fruugo compliance will be included when you update your product listings.

Fruugo recommend that you prepare your products by ensuring that you have populated either the Brand or Manufacturer field in your product catalogue for all the products listed on Fruugo. Populating one of these fields will be mandatory – you should not populate both fields.

By the end of August, you will have access to start uploading your GPSR brand or manufacturer contact details as well as EU Responsible Person details, using the tool in the Fruugo Retailer Portal, so this information can be displayed on your product listings pages. Here you will need to choose to upload either Brand or Manufacturer contact information – the tool will not allow you to submit both.  Where the brand or manufacturer is based outside of the EU, EU representative contact details must also be provided.

The product engineering team is developing functionalities to Display Safety & Warning Labels, Product Labelling (e.g ingredients), the ability to upload Packaging/User Guides, and a Declaration of Conformity for any non-CE products that are not required to display such information.

Whilst GPSR is not required for some products such as Food, the EU Food Directive has stricter traceability and labelling requirements in addition to the GPSR regulations. Therefore, all of this information will be required on Fruugo for these categories.
