It’s rare that it happens, but for one woman the vase she paid just $5 for at a boot sale fetched $9000 on eBay. Although I love stories like this making such a huge profit is beyond the reach of most of us, but it’s not impossible. Telling a story can also add value to an item.
A couple of weeks ago a humble turned aff_link("https://cgi.ebay.com/Seggys-Dream-a-Segmented-Woodturning_W0QQitemZ320193015837QQihZ011QQcategoryZ4174QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem","wooden vase fetched over $5000 on eBay","","US"); ?> with all proceeds donated to the American Cancer Society. In this case doubtless the charity assisted the bids, but if you search for “Seggy’s Dream” you’ll find hundreds of references showing just how widely news of this auction spread. The interest was triggered by the You Tube video which has been watched over 5000 times.
Not every item you sell can achieve the widespread appeal of these two items and not all of us will be lucky enough to find a $9000 vase although I’m still hoping. Telling a story about your item is something everyone can do and if you’ve got a rare or unusual item the right story might just raise the price way above what the item is worth.
If you’ve got an unusual item on eBay or a story to tell let us know. Your next listing could be the one that makes a small fortune.
