It’s been a while since eBay buyers being ripped off by dodgy sellers demanding payment by Western Union have been in the news. It used to one of those stories that the newspapers loved to whip eBay with. But, having banned Western Union and campaigned hard to raise awareness, the problem largely went away.
But it would seem ebay have become compacent about safety and Western Union scams. these ads were spotted and grabbed last week. If you search for items with “west” or “western” in the title, look who pops up in the contextual ads under the search results. Tut tut.

Surprising that ebay are giving credibility to and advertising and promoting a direct Paypal competitor.
Or is it?
But Western Union is a perfectly sensible payment method for sending money to known recipients overseas, e.g. to family members. It’s widely used to remit money back to families by ex-pats.
What it isn’t safe for is sending money to strangers.
eBay may use a third party for advertising, which would answer the question. Or maybe not?
Interesting for eBay. I believe that any single normal common guy that use Adsense can have a banned list. Why eBay can’t configure it?
