On Wednesday evening last (4th April), I was one of presumably many hundreds of thousands of eBay users who tried to pay with PayPal but couldn’t. I was stymied by an error.
Indeed, I tried to buy an Immediate Payment item on my smartphone and was prevented from doing so because the payment was blocked. I wonder how many others were affected?
eBay and PayPal have kept really rather quiet about these errors despite the fact they must have had significant impact on eBay sellers.
If your sales were a bit slow on Wednesday evening, this issue was likely the problem. Were your sales affected?
However, as a buyer, early on Saturday morning (7th April) I received a coupon in apology for the glitch. Read the full text below. It’s good for a 10% discount to a maximum of £10 off a future purchases. Very nice.
Will sellers receive a similar token of goodwill? Indeed, will sellers be proactively informed that a tech issue may have dented their sales? That would only be fair and decent.

Darn it, I’ve bought loads on eBay lately but I wasn’t trying to buy anything Wednesday evening so I didn’t get a voucher 🙁
paypal still has glitch’s. There are stupid at risk flags on some of my payments received.(verified glitch by paypal) And there were glitch’s paying ebay fees yesterday.
And no sellers will not get any compo, cause we don’t matter and are replaceable.
Sellers who have IPO may never know how many sales they lost. Perhaps that’s better not knowing really as I have 17 unpaid items for that paypal downtime. It was 18, but 1 payment came through when the dust settled.
I have lost 17 sales effectively as I find if buyers don’t pay within 24 hours they don’t pay at all and it goes to UPI dispute.
Where is my voucher for compensation?
Sorry to derail this discussion somewhat, but I have a tenuous link to it regarding a problem I am currently having with eBay and I’m hijacking this thread in the hope that Chris or Dan can help or that someone in eBay with some common sense will intervene!
I bought a laptop from someone on eBay. He said it worked – it didn’t.
eBay have sent me several emails saying the item has to be returned and the free address label (which I need because it has a Parcelforce barcode label on it – which proves it was sent back) IS ATTACHED TO THE EMAILS.
However, not ONE OF THEIR EMAILS CONTAINS THE ATTACHMENT.
They have also condescended to giving me advice on how to view email attachments!
I have searched Google and have seen others in similar situations report on the mysterious missing returns label attachment. Some suggest it is a conspiracy – and that the hope is the receiver will run out time (Links available to these on request).
Additionally, eBay now say that my time is up – however one of their emails says I have five days and the other nine days. BUT, I can’t do anything without the attachment anyway!
I’ve tried calling, but I need a pin code to get through to any one.
Can any one give some advice, please help me before I go to Visa and get a charge back (or post it up on Youtube in the hope that it goes viral, write to newspapers, etc) as Paypal keep sending me back to eBay. (eBay reference numbers on the emails are: GS=CU0778 and #UK SR# 1-3000070926)
I got this 10% off coupon and tried to use yesterday and it didn’t work. They only took $1 off, instead of $10 off as said in the original coupon email. I called ebay, and was told that it’s 10% of $10, so it’s only $1 off. I told them that’s not what the coupon email said, but they were adamant.
Does anyone have the same experience?

USING MY SMARTPHONE, AFTER YEARS OF MAKING IMMEDIATE PAYMENTS ON EBAY FOR ITEMS I’VE SUCCESSFULLY BID ON, FOR THE LAST FEW WEEKS WHEN I CLICK ON ‘PAY NOW WITH PAYPAL’ I GET A MESSAGE IN RED, SAYING ‘ACCOUNT IS RESTRICTED’ ETC, BLOODY ANNOYING, I’VE RANG EBAY 3 TIMES ASKING WHAT’S HAPPENED & GUESS WHAT, THEY HAVE NOT GOT A BLOODY CLUE, USELESS. HAS ANYONE ELSE EXPERIENCED THIS?
