Freecycle‘s mission is to build a worldwide gifting movement that reduces waste, saves precious resources & eases the burden on our landfills while enabling our members to benefit from the strength of a larger community.
With 2.5 million members working together in 540 groups all across the UK, Freecycle members can offer for free items which they no longer need, or post a wanted ad for items they’d be appreciative of receiving. As a gifting movement there is nothing to pay to receive an item and users need give no reason as to why they’d like to receive an item. Freecycle users with something to donate can choose who to gift their unwanted items to again without needing to give a reason for their choice.
Freecycle is a great way to keep items out of landfill and give them a second lease of life.
Vote for Freecycle to win Direct Debit Top 100 Good Causes
Freecycle has been selected as one of this month’s Top 100 Good Causes to be in the running for a £2,000 donation from Direct Debit.
If Freecycle win first place, it will mean a £2,000 donation and James Lane, UK Director of The Freecycle Network is going to commit a minimum of 10 x £100 grants from Freecycle UK for use in the promotion and publicity of local groups.
Winning the Direct Debit Top 100 Good Causes would in itself help publicise Freecycle, encouraging more to gift their unwanted possessions. You can vote for Freecycle to win the Direct Debit Top 100 Good Causes online and of course you can join your local Freecycle group at Freecycle.org.

I host a Kimono freecycle on FB to give items their 3rd or even 4th lease of life.
I recommend freecycling!
Freecycle is a good idea but like all such it is spoiled by the ignorant minority. To wit, those who ask for an item and then ask ‘can you deliver it 10 miles away?’ Er, duh, no, I can’t. That’s not part of the deal, sunshine. Also those who give a mobile number – again, er, duh, no: not everyone wants to call your expensive mobile…yes my mobile has ‘free minutes’ but I don’t want you to have my mobile number when it shows up on your Caller Display.
Then finally there’s the freeloaders who are obviously wanting to sell your item on at a car boot sale or whatever.
What a shame; it’s such a good concept…needless to say, people behaving like those above will never get a look-in on my donated items.
