Last night saw many of the biggest names in ecommerce gather in London Internet Retailing Awards 2013. ASOS and Burberry both picked up a brace of awards with Burberry snagging “Internet Retailing In-Store” and “The Innovation Award”. ASOS walked off with “The International Award” and “The Judges’ Award”.
Marketplaces were well represented with eBay taking away “The M-Retailing Award”. This award is for the retailer whose “mobile activities extend beyond an obligatory app and tablet-optimised site to creating an integrated, coherent and compelling experience under their brand – via the mobile, for a customer ‘on the move’, whether at home, on a bus or in-store”.
Amazon grabbing “The Capability Award”. This is the “boring” part of ecommerce valuing that 90% of eCommerce which is based upon the consistent, repeated capabilities of operations, IT, logistics, systems and processes. Web-level eye-candy is well and good, but it’s as nothing without the operational capability to deliver on those promises.
The Internet Retailing Award 2013 is the one everyone wants to win as the winners in each of categories are asked to nominate one from amongst themselves whose achievements and trajectory they most admire. The Internet Retailing Award 2013 went to Lovehoney.
