eBay have just bagged two Belgian classified ads site to go with their portfolio of free ads sites which already include eBay Classifieds (formerly Kijiji in the US) and Gumtree in the UK.
2dehands.be and 2ememain.be are essentially the same site but in different languages. The names mean “second hand” in Flemish and French. eBay say that the two sites are “a staple in Belgian homes”.
The 2dehands.be and 2ememain.be sites will continue to be run by local teams who understand the nuances of the local culture. However eBay also indicated that they will be enhancing the the two platforms to be faster and more intuitive for users.
Given eBay’s expertise in creating leading mobile platforms and the enormous potential for mobile growth for 2dehands.be and 2ememain.be, the development of mobile technologies is a priority for the business.
eBay haven’t disclosed what they paid for 2dehands.be and 2ememain.be.
