Amazon want you to sell distressed stock

Sell On Amazon featAmazon have started emailing sellers asking if they have used or refurbished items to sell on the site.

Tamebay reader Paul of Amanda Tableware received one of the emails which said:

Amazon customers love buying used and refurbished items, and now is a great time to start listing these products.
We have noticed that you have sold certain popular items on Amazon in the “new” condition but not in the “used” condition. If you receive customer returns that you would like to re-sell online, or if you have access to used or refurbished inventory, you should consider selling these products as used on Amazon. Used products can often be re-sold at about 60% to 90% of the “new” price.

The email went on to encourage sellers to consider listing items which they have previously sold in the “new” condition, even going so far as to provide a downloadable file with listing suggestions of suitable items to sell as used or refurbished.

Do you sell used or distressed stock on Amazon, or will you consider doing so in the future? Is this an attempt simply to offer buyers more choice, or are Amazon aiming to grab a slice of eBay’s business?

  1. This is where Amazon are smart. They want the people eBay have rejected, and will beat eBay at their own game. Brilliant move for everyone.
