It’s a pretty good deal. That’s why we were interested to hear that Myhermes will be bringing back their £2.78 inc VAT rate from the 26th March. It’s valid for parcels up to 1kg and includes tracking.
It’s 20p more for a home collection, but all said very good value if you are happy to pop by to drop off your parcels at one of their 3500 parcel shops nationwide. For me, that’s my local Co-op, about
500 metres away.
And it’s especially attractive when you consider some of the parcel prices that Royal Mail levy for even quite modest parcel sizes and weights.

Now, a price war isn’t a universal delight. It doesn’t necessarily work for consumers in the long run. And we all want to see service standards rise too. But competition in the carrier sector is to be welcomed and I can see a lot of ecommerce SMEs welcoming this development.

Good news.
Use myHermes regularly anyway.
I for one am extremely pleased about this new banding, the majority of my parcels for into this category and using myHermes is just easier for me than the post office. No messing about at the counter paying and once I’ve paid for and printed my labels I can have my glamorous assistant (my girlfriend) drop parcels off for me when I’m at work.
Plus I no longer need to seriously worry about conforming to Royal Mails Small parcel sizes either!

Loving my hermes 2kgs rate at the minute. Using 3-5 Kgs as well.
Shame they are limited for international. But looks like myhermes will be a bigger player soon, plus you can get a business account with reasonable volume.
It will be interesting to see if P2G implement/pass this on immediately.
I still havn’t got over their suddent price increase last May for Hermes 1kg items when it went up overnight and without any warningfrom £3.30 to £4.20. P2G claimed the increase was dictated to them that morning by email from Hermes and they had no notice (yeah right, P2G a major customer and no notice? pull the other one!!)
Also, I do wonder if P2G and Hermes are related?
Royal mail shot themselves in the foot with the whole rape charging of over 1kg. With recorded you may as well just send parcel force and get tracking. But all changing in a week or so.
Just sent 1kg 2nd recorded £3.56p. Recorded VS hermes tracked.
I know which id prefer come 26th march.
That Royal mail Share price doesnt seem so secure now does it.
I was quite happy to learn that MyHermes prices were coming down to compete with Royal Mail…
Until I found out that if you send any of the following they could be destroyed by Hermes (according to their terms & conditions)
– Mobile Phone
– TV Remote
– Digital Camera
– Infra Red Cat Collar
– Ipod / Other MP3
– Laptops
– Ipad / other tablets
– Singing Cuddly Bear
– Watches & Clocks
– Computer Mainboards
– Weather Stations
– Radio Controlled Cars
– Computer Keyboards & Mice
– Bluetooth headsets
This is just a few of the items I’ve discovered are not allowed in the Hermes network and will be destroyed if found in the network.
This is because myHermes do not allow batteries in their network. I have clarified this with Hermes Customer Support and their response was :
“Dear Chris,
Thank you for contacting us.
Please be advised that we have our own prohibited items list and do not run off the rules of International Civil Aviation Organisation. We do not allow batteries to be sent through our system, of any kind.
We apologise for the inconvenience caused.”
I just wanted to let other people know that although the prices are great there are other considerations to watch out for.
