Leipzig eBay ChristmasChannelAdvisor have released the Christmas results of its multi-channel e-commerce study, which found that UK retailers are expecting a Merry Christmas in terms of increased sales this Christmas season compared to last year.

To ensure these results, retailers are starting their Christmas promotions now, and embracing more digital marketing as a way to increase reach and sales. Compared to its US counterparts, UK retailers are launching new digital marketing initiatives (32% compared to 17%, respectively) and increasing their digital marketing/advertising budget (35% vs. 19%.) Additional key stats include:

  • UK retailers are less likely to offer discounts for select products, compared to US counterparts (19% vs. 36%)
  • UK retailers are beginning their marketing pushes earlier in the year compared to US counterparts (30% vs. 17%)
  • UK retailers are launching on additional marketplaces (24% vs. 8%)

Globally, however, retailers know that customer service is key. 33% of retailers are stocking more product quantities to meet customer demands and 41% of retailers plan to offer free shipping and returns. With each of these key strategies, retailers expect to have a festive selling season.

What are you doing to prepare your website for Christmas? September might be early for Christmas promotions, but the Christmas cards are already in the high street shops and Christmas day is exactly three months away today.
