Workers at Amazon have walked out on strike again at four of Amazon’s German warehouses. The strike is the latest in a long line of industrial action over pay in Germany.
Basically Amazon pays their workers (well they say) on pay scales above the standard average for logistics workers. Ver.di, the union, claims workers are underpaid and wants them classified as retail workers, reclassifying workers would mean that Amazon would have to pay them more.
The Union claim that “Amazon still refuses to recognize the legally guaranteed in Germany right of workers to a collective agreement” adding that Amazon should be prepared for a long conflict.
Workers at Amazon’s Bad Hersfeld, Leipzig, Graben and Rheinberg facilities will be on strike from now until the evening shift on Tuesday.
The strikes have already been taking place semi-regularly for years with no end in site. Amazon however say that the strikes have little or no impact on orders being shipped and that customers can rely on prompt delivery of purchases in the run up to Christmas.
