Student receives £3.6k of Amazon goods thanks to a blunder

Christmas has come early for one British student living in Bromley. Over the past few weeks he has received £3600 worth of Amazon goods he didn’t order including a £150 baby buggy and a 55-inch Samsung 3D television worth £889.

Robert Quinn, 22, is currently studying engineering at University of Liverpool. It seems that the goods are returns and rather than going to their intended destination, they’ve been turning up at his digs.

He says: “At first I phoned up Amazon and they said that people must be ‘gifting’ them to me, but there’s no way that’s happening because I don’t know any of these people. I was worried that people were losing out on their stuff so I phoned Amazon again and said I’m happy to accept these gifts if they are footing the cost, but I’m not happy if these people are going to lose out. But Amazon said ‘it’s on us.”

It turns out that items are still arriving even though Amazon has blamed it on “a glitch”. Quinn intends to sell some of the stuff and give some to charity.

Our advice? Sell it all on eBay and pay down those students debts. And have a very happy Christmas.

  1. Amazon’s marketing dept clearly in overdrive to secure seasonal column inches. I’ll give it to them, this PR stunt is original.

  2. Similar happened to me a month ago. I received a returned item, but I was not the seller.
I couldn’t contact the buyer as she wasn’t my customer so I had to leave it in Amazon’s hands.
No idea if the lady got her money back. The returned item is still here on my desk.
More importantly (for me) is how she got my address in the first place.

  3. Well done him for his honesty and nice one Amazon for letting him keep the stuff (no value to Amazon I guess!) and better still, not only will he probably have a cracking X-mas party on the back of it all, but charitys also benefit.

Its a nice story and I just wish everyone else had similar ethics/principals and behaved with such integrity!

    Long live the Revolution! 🙂

PS: I can help you sell it all!!

  4. Nice story with a happy ending for this person, it does sound like a PR stunt but we experienced this story from the seller’s perspective.

Due to a software glitch all of our items, including very expensive pens, were repriced at $0.01 Of course, Amazon blames Repricer Express and Repricer Express blames Amazon leaving us to scramble to recover our lost/stolen goods. We contacted Amazon within minutes of noticing the glitch and they promised us to stop all of the shipments, not to worry we were told. Within the hour we started to receive shipping notification, Amazon started to ship all of our Penny orders, great! A few more hours passed and Amazon started to blame Repricer Express for the glitch, Repricer Express told us basically to get lost and sent us their policy that their lawyer drew up to cover their ass.

We know this happened to many other sellers and we are not ready to bend over and take it up you know where … Look for our Facebook group called “Repricer Express Review and Lawsuit on Error/Mistake on Amazon $0.01”

RepricerExpress, stand behind your mistake and make it right!
