Back in 2012 eBay integrated with Nectar to make it easier to collect points on eBay purchases. You can also convert your Nectar points into vouchers to spend on eBay.
Now it appears that fraudsters have found a way to access other people’s Nectar points, grab an eBay voucher and spend it on the site.
It’s possible to link a Nectar card to more than one eBay account and multiple Nectar cards can be linked to a single eBay account. That appears to have been the weakness enabling fraudsters to link other people’s cards to their account.
The police are investigating and on the face of it, it should be easy for them to track down the offenders. Finding out which accounts the stolen vouchers were spent on and popping around to knock on the delivery address door would be a good place to start!
Nectar are refunding points to accounts where fraudulent transactions have occured as they’re confirmed. They are also adding a second level of authentication in place when linking Nectar cards with third party accounts.
It does however act as a timely reminder that if you’ve never linked your Nectar card to your eBay account, or have opened new eBay accounts which aren’t yet linked, you could be missing out on points. You can link you Nectar card to eBay on the .
