Amazon have announce “Dash Buttons” which enable you to reorder products with a single press of a button.
Designed for one Dash button per product, the idea is that for instance you’ll stick a washing powder button for your favourite vendor on or near your washing machine. If you’re running low press the button and an order will be triggered to Amazon who will deliver top up supplies in a day or so.
The possibilities are endless, even the bathroom could have a button to order more loo roll. You’ll use the Amazon app on your smartphone to connect to your home Wi-Fi network and select the product you want to reorder with the Dash Button. Once connected, a single press automatically places your order. Amazon sends an order alert to your phone, so it’s easy to cancel if you change your mind. Unless you elect otherwise, Dash Button responds only to your first press until your order is delivered.
In the future Amazon have plans for Dash Replenishment Service integrated with devices. Manufacturers can either build a physical button into their hardware to reorder consumables or they can measure consumable usage so that reordering happens automatically.
Brita’s connected water filter will measure the amount of water filtered and use DRS to order a new filter at the right time. Whirlpool new smart top-load washer and dryer will soon be able to help anticipate when laundry supplies are running low and provide automatic ordering through DRS.
Currently the offer is only available by invitation to Amazon Prime members in the US.
