Amazon make returns simple and hassle free

I had to return something to Amazon yesterday. Unusually I messed up and purchased the wrong item, but what impressed me was how easy Amazon made the return.

As soon as I requested a return on their website they offered me a choice of how to return the item – I could have it collected or I could drop it off at a local collection point. Seeing as I was paying the return postage (due to it being my mistake) I naturally chose the cheapest option. That just happened to be dropping the item at an Amazon Locker.

Amazon Locker ThatchamAmazon make it so easy, even including instructions on where to find the locker in my local Co-op (…behind the check-out tills, near the entrance from the parking). The Co-op is open from 7am to 10pm Monday through Saturday, and 10am to 4pm on Sunday, which meant I didn’t have to wait until today and interrupt my working day or wait in all day for a courier pick up.

If there’s an Amazon locker near to you and you’ve not tried it yet I’d highly recommend giving it a go – either for receiving Amazon purchases or if you ever need to return a product.

The ease of returning a product to Amazon does also show why eBay are placing so much emphasis on making returns as smooth and simple a process as possible for buyers. They may not have the advantage of a huge locker network but making the returns flow on the eBay website as slick as possible is a must.

  1. Another good point is that Amazon use DPD for all collections. On the morning, you are given a one hour time slot, and if this is not convenient you can either change the day or cancel the collection.
