Argos takes on Amazon Prime Now with same day service

Argos NewburyArgos, the countries favourite brown box high street retailer turned business park retailer is now morphing into a home delivery specialist with the launch of their new Fast Track Delivery service.

From today you can purchase around 20,000 different products from Argos and have them delivered same day for just £3.95. Not only that but you can select one of four time slots for your delivery – 7am-10am; 10am-1pm; 2pm-6pm; or 7pm-10pm and order right up to 6pm for same day delivery. It’s a seven day a week service, the only day you can’t use Argos Fast Track Delivery will be Christmas day.

You can of course also buy online and collect from Argos dedicated Fast Track counters in-store in as little as 60 seconds. With the addition of Fast Track delivery Argos are now offering the ultimate blend of catalogue, online, collection and delivery with just a smattering of instore thrown in. You can of course browse instore, but not the actual products – it’s catalogue or online browsing only.

With the new Fast Track delivery Argos are throwing down the gauntlet not only to other high street retailers but also to the online giants such as Amazon. Amazon currently is brilliant at next day deliveries, but only offers their Prime Now same day service in limited locations (London/Birmingham/Coventry). Argos have over 700 stores in the UK and Ireland, around 150 of which are larger stores which can act as a hub and spoke distribution to their smaller stores for fast stock replenishment.

Of course same day delivery is nothing new to Argos, they have of course have always offered home delivery but have also been a Shutl partner, although that Shutl only operated in limited areas of the country.

With less than three months to Christmas it’s an exciting time for Argos and one that will make many people’s Christmas shopping easier this year. It’s also thrown down a gauntlet to other retailers, if Argos can deliver same day across the country why can’t their fellow shop owners.

It also occurs to me… eBay have their click and collect arrangement with Argos. Will an evening delivery service for eBay be in the offing any time soon? Buy on eBay, have delivered 7pm-10pm by Argos has certain attractions even if there’s a cost involved.
