We’ve often heard complaints in the past about Yodel, but their delivery service is getting better and better and they’re fast turning into one of my favourite companies for receiving deliveries from.
I’m due a delivery today and it was somewhat of a surprise when checking their tracking that not only have they confirmed my order is out for delivery but they’ve also included a mobile number to phone or text the driver.
I don’t need to contact the driver today, I have no intention (currently) of leaving the house so I’ll be here when they deliver. I do like the idea of being able to call or text and ask the driver to leave the parcel with a neighbour or a safe place or even just to check if he’s going to deliver whilst I nip to the shops for a pint of milk.
It’s a small touch, and whilst other couriers have great tracking with 15 minute time slots, hardly any of them give you the ability to call the driver.
I don’t know if this is a feature available for all Yodel deliveries, or if the retailer (in the case an Amazon seller) are paying extra. I do know that I like the new feature even though I don’t need to use it.

It will be interesting to see how this goes – I wonder if it could have the effect of slowing the driver down if he keeps having to stop and answer the phone if lots of people make use of it?
Keep writing this, one day it might be true. Worst delivery company I’ve ever dealt with – and I’ve used most a few times, at least.
I suspect the drivers will get lots of achievable requests. (I am not thinking of “deliver the parcel unbroken please”!)
Whilst some of the messages will be useful (such as suggesting safe drop off locations) many will be wanting the driver to deliver in the next 15 minutes, or to come back at 10pm.
There will also be a lot of abusive messages.
