Brightpearl have asked five industry experts plus me for their predictions of the retail industry trends we’ll see in 2016, and their top tips for multichannel merchants to help them succeed.
Experts from Shipstation, CPC Strategy, Magento, Bigcommerce, Webretailer and Tamebay all have a different slant on what to expect, but some common themes run throughout.
The standout theme for me is that customers are expecting more from small retailers. They expect small retailers to act like big retailers and engage with them more than ever before, across multiple platforms including marketplaces, cost per click advertising, social media and in house marketing.
You can read all six sets of predictions on the Brightpearl blog.

“Those retailers who remain small will start to see ever increasing competition and there are only two ways to remain competitive – either scale up to increase sales or go niche where there is little competition to start with.”
Agree with this. Seen it already
I think for myself as a sole trader this is crucial. I’m finding it impossible online if you’re selling the same product as the large retailers forget it, so saturated. We need to focus on niche, vintage or own brand where we cant be undercut.
