It seems that we’re frequently reporting Amazon expansion in the shape of new fulfilment centres (FC) and new jobs. This time it comes in the form on an announcement from Amazon that they’ll be opening a new depot in Tilbury docks in Essex with 1500 new jobs.
The new FC will form part of Amazon’s London delivery network and the plans have been approved by Thurrock council. Tilbury will be Amazon’s 13th UK FC.
This comes on top of the 500 new jobs that were announced last week that will be created at a new fulfilment centre in Doncaster.
These 2000 new jobs are in addition to the 3500 Amazon said it would be creating in the UK during 2016. Roles include this in head office, research and development, customer service centres, a fashion photography studio, Amazon Web Services and distribution centres.
By the end of 2016 Amazon will have 15.5k jobs based in the UK.

I heard that they will be opening a big depot in Staffordshire as well (I grew up there) – 900 jobs there https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-stoke-staffordshire-14769520
while at the same time reporting ebay emptying offices and laying off staff.
just out of interest, does anyone know how many people ebay employ physically in the UK (not ROI) full time?
make an interesting line graph at least, ebay vs amazon, in terms of staff employed in the UK.
