Amazon’s new Windows 10 App disappoints

No primary category set

Amazon Windows 10 AppAmazon have a new Windows 10 app, but it’s not being met with universal approval. The problem is that the app just appears to be a short cut to the Amazon site and little else.

If you wanted a stripped down browser that only opens the Amazon site then you’ll like the Amazon app. Unfortunately Windows 10 users demand a little more such as push notification, Cortana support and better live tile functionality. Even when the Windows live tile shows you a product, clicking it doesn’t take you direct to the product detail page but just opens the app.

About the only thing it does which is cute, is to enable you to access any of Amazon’s sites around the world from a single app. Mind you you can also do this by typing in a URL into your normal browser.

Reading the reviews, the big complaint is the Amazon Windows 10 App doesn’t add much value being little more than a web wrapper. Amazon’s customers wanted a full blown Universal Windows Platform (UWP) app and they didn’t get it.

It’s worth mentioning that this is a consumer buying app and even then it has limited functionality, if you’re a seller then this app doesn’t have any of the functionality that you’ll want. Even as a buyer, get ready to switch to your browser if you want to do something as simple as tracking a delivery.

Reviews are running at around 3.5/5 stars, but then early adopters are always the users quickest to complain. If you’re an Amazon buyer and running Windows 10 have a play with the app and let us know what you think.

  1. show me a UWP app that doesnt disappoint,
UWP stands for Lowest Common Denominator.
microsoft seem to be taking a leaf out ebays book with UWP, it’s garbage.
“we couldnt make phones run proper programs, so we’re filling PC’s with garbage apps and calling it universal support”.

  2. I can careless about Native Apps that depend heavily on the internet to function, namely banking, shopping, etc.

Just give me a website that is mobile friendly and I am good, not sure why people are so app hungry, when these apps are useless without the internet.

Native app should be apps that can be used offline and talk to the internet if need be when connectivity is available. Besides games which are resource hungry and does not need the internet to enjoy game play, camera apps etc, most apps are useless and only offer up myopic features that the Website version does.
